The Artist

 

Born in 1955, in Mexico, Clemente Garcia-Lassaulx start developing his focus on realism while was still a student in Mexico. 


Having grown up in the town of Aguascalientes he was exposed to the art of Saturnino Herran at a young age. A contemporary of Diego Rivera, Herran was a master of the human figure. The outstanding work of this artist influenced Clemente in pursue his art studies, and develop a similar technique on realistic painting.


After spending some time between Paris and Florence studying the Old Masters, Clemente had the opportunity to work and study with the Hungarian master painter Lajos Markos, where he learnt the secrets of the portraiture. Couple of years later, he collaborated with the masterful Houstonian artist Dick Wray and the Mexican artist Eloy Tarcisio, working, exchanging thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences.
 


Over the years, Clemente has been exposed to a number of cultures which have deeply affected his perceptions and interpretations relating to the art world.


“My involvement in the art culture of Houston has led me to develop a new method of artistic expression, combining a traditional academic style with a more unique personal language.  My desire to create a more interesting language within my art has resulted in a number of semi-abstract pieces.”


Clemente’s pursuit of an original artistic voice, have resulted in a style which could be described as a marriage of various techniques expressed as a single unified artistic language. 
Past and present reveal themselves as the semi-abstract interacts with realism, serving as a symbolic portrayal of the artist's experiences within American society.

 

He works with oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, ink, charcoal, pencil, spray paint, engraving, woodcut, silkscreen, transfer images, plexi glass, paper mache, grafitti, spray foam, plaster, collage, clay.

 

He paints/makes portraits, still life, landscape, caricature, cartoon, mixed media, semiabstract, abstract, contemporary, conceptual, naive, found objects, video, photograph.

 

His art work has been exhibit in museums and galleries.
